Checklist Of Reasons Why Pitchers Can’t Boost Pitching Velocity

The large majority of pitchers at the Little League, high school and college levels never reach their full potential to maximize their pitching velocity.

Here are 13 reasons why most pitchers cannot boost their pitching velocity:

  1. Don't throw enough game intensity pitches in practice to stay fit to pitch
  2. Have slow movements or hesitations in their deliveries
  3. Don't shift their weight aggressively before they break their hands
  4. Take the ball out of the glove too early
  5. Their arm swing is too short or they lift their elbows to shoulder height
  6. Don't get low enough to maximize leg drive
  7. Don't stride 100% of their height or more
  8. Start to rotate before they complete back leg drive
  9. Move too slow into a short stride
  10. Can't brace-up their lead leg and hip
  11. Don't get their head and chest out over their landing knee at ball release
  12. Waste time on long toss or in the weight room rather than pitch from the mound and do full-body explosive functional training

This is what I have been focusing on in our Explosively Pitching DVD program since 2004.  We teach parents how to help their sons use their bodies to pitch instead of just their arms. Not only does this improve velocity but reduces the risk of arm injuries. http://www.pitching.com/products/

"My 14 year old son's velocity jumped 12 mph, his control improved dramatically and his arm pain vanished. For the first time since he has been pitching, he finally understands what he is doing...what causes the ball to do what it does and how his body functions to be effective...now that is priceless."
