Father Speaks—Why He Is Motivated To Purchase Our Program

Here is an email I got over the weekend from the father of a high school sophomore pitcher. Here are some of the reasons that fathers are motivated to help their sons by investing in an instructional program.

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Mills,

I am a father of a 15-year old pitcher (Billy) and a baseball coach (AAU Coach, Fall Baseball League Coach (JV level), and Cal Ripken/Babe Ruth-level coach). I have received your four multi-colored sales pamphlets and realized that, despite my experience as a pitcher and as a coach, when the hard questions are asked–and especially “Why?”, I lack the answers that I should have as a coach–and especially as a pitching coach. I wish to purchase your entire program for my son so that we may begin to implement your techniques as soon as possible.

I understand that using slow-motion video is critical in breaking down a pitcher’s motion and we have used slow motion video to do just that for quite some time now–especially for diagnosing hitting problems, but pitching is entirely different. The threat of me teaching incorrect mechanics which may lead to career-debilitating or career-ending elbow and/or shoulder injuries really caused me to pause and seriously consider ordering your course immediately.

As a coach, much less a father of a 6’4″, 182 lb. sophomore in high school, I only want what is best for every player. After having spent time at the University of V——– this past summer for their camp, my son was encouraged to spend time doing “towel drills,” but in my reading of your materials, I am concerned that this technique may actually hurt my son’s delivery. On the other hand, the University of M——- camp stressed explosive movements in all areas of the game of baseball–both on and off the field. After last December’s camp with Coach ———–, my son received a letter of interest–as a 9th grader. He has also received similar letters of interest from the University of F———- and C———-. I would like nothing better than to use your program–giving you full credit for his pitching successes, as we watch him progress from high school to the college level (and above).

My son’s one goal is to be a professional baseball player. I told him that I would support him in his quest, but that just because I said that supported his goal didn’t mean that he would attain it–it would take hard work and dedication. Part of our hard work has been to find the very best instructors in the country–and we certainly value your reputation and look forward to using your instructional material to better my son’s overall approach. In addition, his GPA is 4.02 so far, so it is even more likely that many schools will be interested in his academic as well as baseball talent.

You may often wonder what the driving force was behind a customer’s decision to purchase your course. For us, the reason was twofold: 1) My son’s pitching coach (a former AAA pitcher with the Cardinals) simply has not spent the quality time with my son in order to develop him fully (including not having an off-season or in-season conditioning and weightlifting regimen for his pitchers to follow) and 2) Our ability to follow-up with questions through telephone calls or through your website. We are simply not sure if the coaches at our high school are really capable of developing players to become Division I-A (or even I-AA) caliber athletes. As a result, we are turning to you to help my son move to the next level.

As a 14-year AAU pitcher, Billy excelled and quickly became the most impressive and most dependable of any of our four pitchers. When my son pitched on his JV team this past spring, he was a pleasant surprise to the coaching staff, as none of the coaches had really taken any time to look at him throw. Once he was given a chance, his true pitching ability was seen, despite his velocity being only in the 72-74 range. He pitches well because he is smart and works the corners well, especially low and away–making inexperienced pitchers try to pull pitches that are off the plate. After making his American Legion team during the summer, he was the most consistent pitcher on the staff–even a staff with seniors and juniors. He had the best season out of all of our pitchers, despite a lack of dominating velocity (74-76 during the summer). His fall baseball season started right where he left off in the summer. He did not give up a single earned run throughout the fall–having given up 2 unearned runs in total all fall (probably throwing close to 80 by now…no guns were used in the fall). I provide this background information as a way of introducing my son to you. I look forward to speaking to you and your wife as we chart a course for success together.

Thank you for everything you do and thank you for helping my son to be the very best pitcher he can be.

Most respectfully,

Bill

If you have questions on any phase of pitching—mechanics, strength and conditioning, mental training, strategy send those questions to dickmills@gmail.com and I will answer them here.

If you want an explosive body and explosive mechanics you need to get my Free Report at www.pitching.nexcess.net. We won’t waste your time. We show you how to recognize exactly what is holding back most pitchers…find the problem—fix the problem. I show you a comparison between two high school pitchers and a major league pitcher who throws mid to upper nineties. You will see the biggest problem that reduces velocity in the majority of pitchers.
