Why late trunk rotation is the key to better mechanics and improved pitching velocity
For pitchers who want to improve their pitching velocity, their control while reducing stress to their arms, they must learn how to use their lower body to deliver their trunk…which is how the arm is whipped through.
Studies have proven that late trunk rotation is the key to pitching velocity for major league pitchers. And this late trunk rotation is what differentiates a major league pitcher’s delivery from a college, high school or Little League pitcher. Amatuer pitchers simply get their arms involved much too early.
This video shows a major league pitcher who understands how to develop maximum momentum into a stride that is over 100% of his height while keeping his throwing throwing shoulder and arm back as long as possible. Notice the explosive trunk flexion into a flat back which is the key to velocity and reducing stress to the arm.
Parents should compare their son’s mechanics to this pitcher. In doing that they will understand that their son’s move too slow, stride too short and are in a poor position at landing and ball release.
The problem with youth and most high school pitchers is that they get to ball release too soon because they do not maximize their back leg drive, do not stride at least 100% of their height and rotate much too early. And at ball release they have not gained maximum trunk flexion speed.
Our Explosive Pitching DVD’s provide the latest instruction on how to gain more momentum into a longer stride so that they trunk delivers the arm as late as possible. http://www.pitching.com/products/
