    Dick-

To build off our talk yesterday, My coach was watching me throw today and said the reason for my bicep pain may have to do with my arm action.. He said it swings back (behind my trunk) and straightens out and he said I need To keep it loose and bent..Wanted your thoughts on my arm action based on my previous videos.

    Thanks!

    Justin,

Post a link of your pitching from a mound which is most representative of how you have been throwing. I don’t recall you ever mentioning you had any arm issues.

    Justin,

Your arm is not in a good position at touchdown because you lean way back. Thus your arm is dragging and doing more than it should.

When the arm is lengthened as yours is by not keeping the elbow flexed and wrapping it, the bicep tendon is lengthened as well.

If you broke your hands lower and let your arm swing down and back while directing your front shoulder at the target there would be far less time to wrap your arm and over-rotate.

You need to fix your trunk from leaning back which will allow you to get your trunk more out over your landing knee which should reduce the stress to your arm.

Are you using the First Pitch Strike program? If your connective tissue is not warmed up properly and strengthened regularly your joints are not fully supported. That is your arm insurance.

Your mechanics right now are not what we would call efficient. The more efficient they become the less risk of injury.
Fixing those two things could save your career and get your velocity in the 95 range.

it was something that i had mentioned but, it had subsided for a while. However, it has recently flared up again, and i am not really sure why. i guess it could be my arm action, but i focus on letting the arm drop down and get long/loose, which i thought is correct. there is a point when it gets to it lowest point where it sort of locks out at the elbow ( similar to ubaldo jimenez if you can picture that)

So are you basically saying take the nose forward with the belly button (instead of leaning back)and do the same arm action?

This is how my arm action normally is (and my delivery) when I don’t focus on doing anything with my lower body. My arm swings back even though my handbreak is lower.. Do u know why?

the video before this was a little more recent, and i was pushing earlier with my back leg, so that’s why i broke my hands earlier

Bringing The Gap Between Fundamentals & Innovations In Pitching.

In 2004 we developed the first evidence-based pitching program based on sports science research, instead of common coaching beliefs. Through this research we've also learned video analysis is still the best and most accurate way to assess pitching mechanics. We not only show pitchers at all levels their faults and the adjustments, but work with there style in order to improve their velocity and control, all while reducing their risk of arm injuries. The true difference about our coaching methods are simple, our clients will truly feel the difference and that's the only true way towards improvement and development.
