Looking for feedback
I see him moving faster to plate
Arm up too early think he needs to go down then back then up he swings down then up
Hands could start higher
Stride is over 5′ 3″ he’ 5’7″
Could tilt trunk, does this more from conventional stretch
Not sure if his landing has gotten better with less drifting, think it has.
Lands on centerline
Lands heel toe still
velocity in low 60’s
Any help apprecciated
Have front video from same game I can post
Have him start with his hands high on his chest. This will improve weight shif and cure the early arm. Also, keep working on the stride length. This alone will make a huge difference.
No bad at all. The more bullpens he throws from the slide-step, the better he will get. Stay focused on these two changes.
I would highly suggest that you post a back angle at the same time. One angle is not sufficient.
Notice that he is not out over his landing knee at ball release. He needs more from his back leg to develop more momentum. He can’t get that because he is into early hip rotation and turning into landing rather than using back leg drive to force his body in a more linear direction.
Weight shift before hand break and then back leg drive with a strong flat back finish.
You can’t be reluctant making these changes now. It becomes much more difficult later.
I usually do post 2 but this was a game so, I’ll video some this week side and back and work on the changes at the same time.
So, just to clarify, he needs to actually push harder with his back leg, where now he is just pushing a little and stepping?
If as a pitcher you wanted to extend your back leg (straighten it) from a starting bent position after weight shift and hand break what would you do?
What would cause the leg to straighten? This is not a trick question. It is quite obvious.
This isn’t just your son’s problem, this is one of the biggest problems we see with many, many pitchers.
They have not learned to move fast or be explosive. Because of poor back leg action they end up turning into landing. This is a huge momentum and velocity killer.
Now is the time to change this.
The faster you move the less chance of error.
