hello i new here, and heres just a simple question: I was wondering say i was just playing catch for warmup, in an inclosed area, or just on the road, is there a certain way to throw?? like a crop hop?? going slowly through your pitching motion??? only certain aspects of the motion?? thanx
You are not far off. But you always want to try something different. Stick with one thing and fix that.
So what you are proposing…I would have no idea until you actually try it.
Right now your main fault is you do not brace up until your trunk is facing home plate in the current video. And yes you collapse down a bit. At hand break your back leg must be stable…not continuing to bend.
In the July video of pro ball your bracing seems better (but front knee still drifts after you land a bit) but you have no trunk tilt. However, your trunk position is good at landing in July but now you are too far forward because of your stride being too long.
Why don’t you work on one thing and try to fix that. I would shorten your stride first so you can brace. Once you complete back leg drive (back leg is extended) your must get your front foot turned and ready to land sooner instead of letting your leg continue to drift further out.
If the foot is down sooner your trunk will be back in a better position. But you must be braced once all your weight is on your front hip and leg.
Also in the current back yard video you are not tucking your lead elbow in close to your trunk. And because your throwing arm is not fully extended at ball release (throwing elbow leads trunk) that tells me that you are not using your trunk because in this video you are too far forward and not braced which kills your trunk rotation speed.
Fix your collapsing and your stride. This will allow you to use your lead arm because your trunk will be positioned further back. And if you brace and use your lead arm your velocity will jump.
you mentioned i was overstriding, collapsing, etc.
do you think i could be better off just not trying to use my legs or push or try to lead with the hip and just throw like i am playing catch?
wouldn’t i essentially be simplifying the delivery and doing a side lunge if i were to just basically step to the side and throw (also prevent over striding)?
i tried landing trying to keep the trunk back somewhat and getting into a good landing position..looks like i am still collapsing a little, but seem to be bracing up a little better. what do you think?
Does this movement appear or feel natural to you? I doubt it.
How long was your stride during the season? And in the previous video?
In this video it is much too short plus you are moving very, very slow with very little back leg action. All you are doing here is sitting over your back leg and then landing. Almost a tall and fall.
But that is not how you pitch. You can’t practice at slow speed and expect it to produce an explosive action.
Put yourself in the landing position with your trunk and arm back. Nose over bellybutton. Now focus on not allowing your front knee to move (it must brace) while driving your lead arm down in close to your trunk to get your trunk to move faster.
