Dick, Aaron and I went last night to watch the American Legion Regional playoffs. The two Blue Springs high school teams where in it, the one Aaron will attend and the cross town rivals. Any way, Kris Johnson, 90 MPH lefty Ace for the Missouri state champs and the kid that was drafted by the Angels, and Wichita State signee, was pitching againest the Texas state champs and Kris ended up two hitting them. After the game, Kris, Aaron, and I were discussing pre-game prep and I asked him if he does any pre-game mental work, (ie. situational pitching), and he said never, and that was too much thinking. Afterwards Aaron and I discussed his answer and I asked Aaron if he thought Kris’s answer was valid, and Aaron stated that he had gone over most every situation that he would encounter during a game before the game, but that was about it. Now, my question is could you expound on what else Aaron should be doing as far as mental pre-game prep. I told Aaron, that Kris was missing out on something big, and that I would email you to learn more about it. He is a good kid, and has given Aaron something to work toward…(he started the season with 3 no no’s). Secondly, I am going to have Aaron try out for the American Legion team in a couple of weeks. He may not get a lot of work, but I think he would love being on a team as a “freshman” with the upperclassmen for the summer. Your thoughts? Thanks. joel martens
