Dick's Analysis

Tyler,
The first component to a powerful delivery is weight shift. You want to begin shifting your lower body away from the rubber while breaking your hands lower and later. Get your front hip moving toward the target, then break your hands lower and later. This will allow you to start creating momentum from the very beginning of your delivery. Also, it’s OK to stay tall on your back leg as you are lifting your lead leg but as you begin to shift the lower body out you want to get the back leg into a flexed and stable position. You don’t want to continue to sit down on the back leg as you move out because it is slowing down your forward momentum towards home plate.
Once you break your hands begin driving your body away from the rubber explosively with the back leg and hip. As you are driving away from the rubber stay sideways longer and resist turning or rotating into landing so soon. As soon as you begin rotating your forward momentum slows down. Also, watch your lead arm going above shoulder height. This produces a slowing action. It is just like swinging the leg out and around. So push your glove at the target and not above shoulder height.
Also, because you have begun to rotate your hips early your front shoulder has already rotated at landing position. When the front foot lands the trunk and front shoulder should still be sideways and the arm should be back and put on stretch. Right now your front shoulder starts to open prematurely which won’t allow you to get full extension out in front at ball release. Early trunk rotation prevents the arm from whipping through a longer distance and thus reduces arm speed and of course throwing velocity.
As you go into landing make sure to get your shoulders level. Right now you have a little too much tilt in your shoulders which causes you to have a low elbow at landing. Getting your shoulders level gong into landing will allow your elbow to get to shoulder height before the hand gets up. This will also allow your trunk to be more involved in delivering your arm out in front with better extension and for improved arm speed.
Your back foot is coming off the ground before you release the ball which is causing you to lose energy. Also, at ball release your head and chest are behind your landing knee so you are lacking extension. Again, both of these things are a result of rotating too early and not allowing your body to continue moving forward into ball release. When you land, and as your hips begin to rotate think about flexing your trunk forward out over your landing leg which will deliver your arm out in front with better extension.
Also, with improved weight shift and more leg drive your stride should increase to your height. Right now your stride is much too short.
Together these changes will help improve velocity and control while reducing stress to your arm.
Let us know when you would like to discuss this by phone.
