Scott, How is Mike doing? Not trying to be nosey, but I do think about you guys and wonder.
Thanks Randy. We are doing very well right now. We’ve relaxed, we’ve spoken, and despite the current mechanical problem I am discussing in the other forum about the back leg extension, we are very much at peace with each other. Mike is very excited about his summer season. In fact, his HS coach has asked for his summer schedule, and his summer coach has told Mike that he and another pitcher (freshman) with Varsity expectations next season will do the majority of the pitching. Mike is very psyched by that. And he is batting .625 between spring travel ball and the JV season. We’ve worked on hitting and generating speed and power with the hips. I found myself teaching him the same exact things as a guy named Mike Epstein. I had no idea who he was. But the “genius” in me watched lots of video of Ted Williams, Joe Dimaggio, Duke Snider and Dave Winfield. Tall and slim guys who all hit in a similar fashion. So I stole from them. Turns out, just like Mike Epstein. I got Mike to kill his stride. And bingo! Power shots and hot liners everywhere. It’s beautiful. National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum: Sights and Sounds If I get this pitching thing working in him like I think he is capable, he is going to have one enjoyable Varsity and hopefully college career. In a week or so, I will write about what we spoke about, what we are discovering about ourselves and how I think things will go from this day forward. Stay tuned. Good stuff to come. -scott
